On October 30, SGS hosted its annual awards ceremony and industry exchange forum at the Taipei Marriott Hotel. Gemtek Technology was proudly honored with the prestigious SGS "ESG Awards: Sustainable Governance Award," which was accepted by General Manager Mr. Rong-chang Li on behalf of the Company.
In response to global sustainability trends, Gemtek Group has been dedicated to adhering to international conventions and local regulations long since 2014. These include the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct, the International Labor Organization Conventions, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the UN Global Compact, which the Company has implemented an RBA management system, formulated policies on labor, ethics, the environment, and supply chain management, and set measurable targets deriving from that basis. Gemtek also actively extends these standard to its suppliers, ensuring their alignment and compliance.
Gemtek has established RBA implementation committees at all its production sites. These committees oversee RBA training, management review meetings, risk assessments of the RBA management system, and internal audits. RBA audits are conducted every two years or intermittently by customers. In 2023, Gemtek’s Taiwan headquarters, Gemtek (Kunshan), and Gemtek Vietnam successfully completed RBA external certifications, earning Platinum, Gold, and Silver level recognition, respectively.
Officially Established the ESG Sustainability Development Committee to Drive Sustainability Strategies and Initiatives
On March 13, 2023, Gemtek officially established the ESG Sustainable Development Committee as a functional subcommittee under the Board of Directors. The committee comprises four functional groups: "Sustainable Environment," "Sustainable Supply Chain," "Business Operations and Corporate Governance," and "Workplace Well-Being." Its responsibilities include setting sustainability policies, developing annual plans and strategies, monitoring and reviewing progress, and making decisions on other sustainability-related matters.
To advance corporate sustainability, Gemtek established short-, medium-, and long-term ESG goals in 2023, accompanied by corresponding action plans. These plans underwent feasibility evaluation through risk-benefit analysis and were implemented following approval from the General Manager, the ESG Sustainable Development Committee, and the Board of Directors. Going forward, regular reviews will be conducted to track ESG goal implementation and assess sustainability performance. Progress and results will be reported to the ESG Sustainable Development Committee and the Board, further strengthening Gemtek's sustainability initiatives and actively addressing stakeholder expectations.
Carbon Reduction Measures in Response to Global Decarbonization Trends
In response to growing global demands for net-zero carbon emissions, Gemtek has adopted the TCFD framework to guide its disclosures on governance, strategy, risk management, metrics, and targets related to climate change. Building on this foundation, the company has established a greenhouse gas inventory system and has actively participated in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) since 2012. Using 2022 as the baseline year, by 2030, Gemtek aims to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and reduce Scope 3 emissions by 30% among key suppliers. Carbon reduction measures across the company's operations include upgrading to energy-efficient lighting, optimizing air conditioning systems, and applying insulating materials to glass facades to minimize energy consumption.
In May 2024, Gemtek Taiwan Headquarters and Gemtek Vietnam introduced the ISO 50001 Energy Management System, with verification expected to be received by the end of December. This approach aims to monitor energy usage effectively and establish energy management goals to drive continuous performance improvement.
Additionally, in the fourth quarter of 2024, Gemtek will begin installing solar power systems at both Gemtek Taiwan Headquarters and Gemtek Vietnam to reduce energy consumption, decrease carbon emissions, and minimize environmental impact. The Company aims to achieve a 20% self-sufficiency rate in energy generation by 2025.
2023 marked a pivotal year for Gemtek's sustainability efforts. During this time, we established short, medium, and long-term sustainability goals, updated policies and internal procedures, gathered measurable data, and enhanced the comprehensiveness of our sustainability reporting. Our efforts were recognized with a Silver-level certification from EcoVadis, highlighting a promising beginning to our sustainability journey.
Receiving the SGS "ESG Awards: Sustainable Governance Award" further validates Gemtek Technology's commitment to sustainability. We remain dedicated to advancing our initiatives and achieving meaningful progress in this area.
