Protecting Nature Valley - A Journey of Habitat Care and Discovery
On a bright and sunny Saturday, Gemtek colleagues visited the Nature Valley Environmental Trust to take part in a journey that combined habitat conservation with a hands-on craft experience.
In the morning, we walked along the nature trail, working together to remove Mikania vines (Mikania micrantha), a fast-growing invasive species commonly known as the “mile-a-minute weed” or “plant killer.” In just a few hours, the team cleared 63.5 kilograms of vines, helping the land recover and giving native plants a better chance to grow and thrive.
In the afternoon, we learned about the story of Nature Valley, gaining an appreciation for the landowner’s dedication in donating and protecting the forest, as well as the environmental team’s years of unwavering effort. The session also guided us through a sensory exploration, using smell and taste to discover the diverse characteristics of the plants.
During the final handkerchief leaf-printing activity, everyone put their creativity to work, transforming nature’s imprints into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. This event was more than just a volunteer opportunity, it was a meaningful encounter with nature. We sincerely thank all colleagues and the Nature Valley team for joining us, and hope the inspiration from this experience carries into everyday life, motivating real actions to protect the land.
